Riesling DOC South Tyrol

The cool, fresh microclimate 580 m above Meran provides optimal conditions for this grape to develop to the full. Fine and fruity, with an exceptionally elegant note of peaches and apricots, it is fresh on the palate with a soft mineral finish.

The grapes remain on the vine until they are absolutely ripe and are later read by hand. A long maceration period on the press extracts the typical Riesling notes from the berry skin. The fermentation is 100%. in the wood at about 18°C. This is followed by 10 months of ageing on the fine yeast.

Tasting note

Our delicately fruity Riesling smells of peach and apricot, is elegant and fresh on the palate. It also convinces with a slightly mineral finish. Fits as an aperitif, with cold starters, salads and Mediterranean dishes.

The grapes for this Riesling grow in our terraces at 580 m above sea level directly at the winery above Merano. Here the grapes ripen in a cooler microclimate and can thus develop their beautiful fruit. In addition, the typical fresh animating acidity is preserved. The soils are characterised by mineral-rich granite and porphyry.

Eichenstein Vineyard

The family of Josef Waldner, owner of the winery, have been making wine for 350 years. The origin of winemaking at the Eichenstein has its roots in Marling, where the dedicated wine lover created his first white wine cuvée “Gloria Dei” in 2005. In 2006, he followed on with his “Baccara” Marlot and

Cabernet Franc red wine cuvéè, assisted and advised by renowned enologist Hartmann Donà. In 2007 Josef Waldner further realised his vision when he established the Eichenstein vineyard on the Freiberg, from 550-600 m, above Meran. In 2014, the crowning jewel of the vineyard was built: The wine cellar, a vinarium and a guest chalet. And in 2018, the most recent porphyry plot was established at 500 m above sea level.
